Reservations are a must!
Only 75 people per day allowed on the trail!

Trailhead Location:
Turn west on Whitney Portal Road at the traffic signal in the center of Lone Pine.
Drive 13 miles to the trail head which is well marked.

Dates open:
Usually from late July through October, depending on the snowpack.

Type of camp:
Backpack 11 miles on a strenuous trail.

Permits:
Forest service wilderness permit. No campfires.

Highest elevation reached:
14,494 feet (Highest point in the continental United States)

Comments:
Purify water, watch for bears and pack out all trash.
